In May 2019 the first draft of the script went ‘public’ with a readthrough at South Hill Park, Bracknell, and through the rest of 2019 and in to 2020 Steve and Glenn started to record demos of the songs.
But then … lockdown. So in late 2020, with a revised script and having persuaded Director Nicola Allpress and Musical Director Chris Hatt to come on board, the team set about online auditions to workshop the show and to try and record the full musical. Owing to the Covid pandemic, everything was to be carried out via Zoom.
Producer Amanda Faber, of the Soldiers’ Arts Academy, had also come on board to not only steer the group, but also to provide a valuable link with military veterans involved in the Arts. Having lined up a fantastic cast of actors we were all set for our first full script readthrough on 3rd February 2021.
Over the course of the next month, further development work was carried out, all via phone call and zoom, and on 3rd March we once more gathered in the ether to perform an online rehearsed readthrough.
Further script work and development of the songs followed, and preparations began to stage a concert showcase.
